Individual Psychotherapy

Working with Children

Children are my specialty. Although my training and background is in child development, I actually see very few children individually. Over the years, I have come to believe that working with children in a family context is usually the quicker and more productive route to positive changes. Of course, there are also occasions when individual therapy with children is more appropriate.

More commonly, however, I treat childhood problems in a family context. Sometimes that means sessions with the child and parent(s) together; other times I work with parents on parenting strategies, behavioral plans, school issues, etc. (see Special Needs Children as well). Therapeutic games, hot chocolate, and my therapy dogs are all useful in making children feel comfortable talking about important issues.
