Teens can need psychotherapy for many different
types of problems. Some adolescents come to
counseling for a family problem, such as divorce
or the loss of a loved one. Others have
diagnosable psychological disorders, such as
depression, eating disorders, or any of a wide
variety of anxiety disorders. A small number of
teens may also suffer from the early onset of a
major psychological disorder, such as
schizophrenia.

Finally, some teens come to therapy because of
behavioral problems either at school, at home, or
with the law. Treatment for adolescents depends
on the diagnosis, the severity of the problem, and
the individual's preference.
